Notes For Colossians 3:10
a [put on the new man] Nine things to put on (Col. 3:10,12):
1. The new man (note, Eph. 4:24)
2. Bowels of mercies (note, 2Cor. 6:12)
3. Kindness (note, 1Cor. 13:4)
4. Humbleness of mind (see Christian Humility)
5. Meekness (note, 1Cor. 13:4)
6. Longsuffering (note, 1Cor. 13:4)
7. Forbearance (note, 9, Gal. 5:22)
8. Forgiveness (note, Mt. 18:35)
9. Divine love (note, 1Cor. 13:4)
b [new man] See note, Eph. 4:24.
c [renewed in knowledge] See 2Cor. 5:17-18; Eph. 4:23-24.
d [knowledge] Greek: epignosis (GSN-<G1922>), full and true knowledge (Col.
3:10; 1:9-10; Rom. 1:28; 3:20; 10:2; Eph. 1:17; 4:13; Php. 1:9; 1Tim. 2:4; 2Tim.
3:7; Heb. 10:26; 2Pet. 1:2,3,8; 2:20) and acknowledge (Col. 2:2; 2Tim. 2:25;
Tit. 1:1; Phm. 1:6). Ignorance is the state of the average heathen who gets to
know only a little about nature. Christianity teaches man the true and full
knowledge of God and nature, and of the origin and destiny of all things (Acts
15:18; Eph. 2:7; 3:9-11).
e [image] Greek: eikon (GSN-<G1504>) (note, Col. 1:15). This is one of three
places where the word means pattern or moral and spiritual likeness (Col. 3:10;
Rom. 8:29; 2Cor. 3:18). The idea here is that God planned for man to have full
knowledge. Now He renews man after the original pattern or plan and gives him a
sound mind and true knowledge (2Tim. 1:7; 2Pet. 1:3-13). This could read,
"renewed in knowledge according to the original pattern of God who created him."
