Elijah may have suspected before that Elisha knew what was going to happen, but
here, he knew it.
He asked Elisha what he wanted because it was obvious through his persistence
that he was believing God for something.
Elisha wanted a double portion of Elijah’s spirit and power.
He got his request and did twice as many recorded miracles as Elijah did.
However, in the New Testament, we all have been given the fullness of the
Godhead (Colossians 2:9-10), and we can’t get twice as much as some other
person.
We all are complete in Christ.
We can operate in twice the power of God as someone else, but we all have the
fullness of God dwelling in us completely (John 1:16).
It’s just a matter of how much we draw out and not how much God gives.
It’s significant that Elijah told Elisha to ask him what he would before he was
taken away.
It is unscriptural to think saints in heaven intercede for us. Jesus is our
intercessor (Hebrews 7:25).
